Camden Council and Wollondilly Shire Council have welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement of a $7 million investment to upgrade the intersection of Wire Lane and Remembrance Driveway with traffic lights, improving safety and traffic flow along a key transport corridor connecting the two local government areas.
The funding was announced by NSW Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison, alongside Member for Camden, Sally Quinnell and Member for Wollondilly, Judy Hannan, at a Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue event in Camden.
Camden Mayor, Therese Fedeli said the investment was a positive outcome for the region and demonstrated the importance of continued investment in transport infrastructure to support south-west Sydney’s growing communities.
“This is a welcome investment that will improve safety for motorists travelling through one of the key connections between Camden and Wollondilly,” said Mayor Fedeli.
“Road safety and investment into critical transport corridors is a shared priority, and investments like this make a real difference to our residents and everyone who travels through our region.
“We welcome the NSW Government’s commitment to improving road safety and look forward to seeing further investment in transport infrastructure that supports the needs of our growing communities.”
Wollondilly Mayor, Matt Gould said the Shire looked forward to continuing to work collaboratively with neighbouring councils and the NSW Government to advocate for further road improvements across the region.
“Wollondilly Shire Council has welcomed the announcement of $7 million funding for traffic lights at Wire Lane on Remembrance Driveway at the northeastern boundary of the Shire. Traffic lights at the Wire Lane intersection will significantly increase safety at this location, benefitting Wollondilly residents heading in and out of the Shire through Camden,” he said.
Remembrance Driveway is a key connecting road for the Wollondilly Shire and this investment reinforces the importance of Council’s strategic advocacy to secure the re-categorisation of this road, as well as Menangle Road and Silverdale Road.
“Council looks forward to more roads and traffic investment into our region to support our growing community as we work together with all levels of government,” Mayor Gould said.
The Wire Lane upgrade forms part of the NSW Government’s $230 million investment in 83 targeted road safety projects under the next stage of the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program and the investment is part of the NSW Government’s $2.8 billion commitment to road safety over four years through the 2026/27 NSW Budget.
