A Balonne Shire Council vehicle transporting chemicals and two Council employees have been involved in a serious motor vehicle incident this morning.
The incident, on the corner of Barlee Street and Arthur Street at St George, resulted in the Council vehicle flipping onto its roof.
“Two Council employees have been taken to the St George Hospital for treatment and Council has contacted the families of these employees,” the Council said in a statement.
“The occupant of the other vehicle was not physically injured in the incident.
“Emergency Services and Council acted immediately to attend the scene and acted swiftly to contain chemicals that were being transported in the Council vehicle to ensure they did not enter the drainage system.”
The Council says it will be undertaking an internal review of the incident and will be fully cooperating with the authorities in relation to any broader investigation into the incident.
