Benalla Rural City Council has begun key upgrades to the playground at Mackellar Street Reserve, with improvement works to enhance safety, comfort and usability for local families now underway.
The works include the installation of a new fence around the playground, in response to community feedback to create a safer, more secure play environment for children and carers.
The fencing works are being undertaken by a contractor and are expected to be completed within 10 days, weather permitting.
Further improvements are also planned, with two large shade sails scheduled for installation from early May. The additional shade will provide welcome relief during warmer weather and support longer, more comfortable playtime throughout the summer months.
“The new fencing provides greater peace of mind for parents and carers, while the shade sails create a more inviting space where children can play safely during the warmer months,” said Mayor, Bernie Hearn.
“Accessible, safe and comfortable play spaces encourage outdoor activity, social interaction and healthy lifestyles, and these upgrades will ensure Mackellar Street Reserve continues to be a valued local destination for families.”
Council appreciates the community’s patience while works are completed and looks forward to delivering these improvements for residents to enjoy.
