South Australia’s Alexandrina Council has celebrated some of the region’s best practice heritage projects at its recent annual Heritage Awards.
Held as part of South Australia’s History Festival, the Awards were at Hope Forest Dingabledinga Soldiers Memorial Hall and featured guest speaker Liz Harfull, an Adelaide Hills-based author who presented an insight in the stories of rural Australia.
The event was attended by around 55 people who celebrated the award commendations and winners.
“We held our annual Heritage Awards Evening at Hope Forrest where we celebrated those in our community who work tirelessly to preserve our rich heritage,” said Mayor, Keith Parkes.
“This year the Mayoral Award was far from an easy decision. Kool Tours continues to lead the way in heritage tourism on a State level offering enriching cultural tourism experiences to connect to Ngarrindjeri culture.
“Armfield Wooden Boats Inc. has stood as a cornerstone of Goolwa’s rich boating history and celebrated their 100th anniversary this year.
“Both Kool Tours and Armfield Wooden Boats Inc. play an integral part to honouring our region’s heritage and I am proud to have announced the commendation and winner on behalf of Council.”
Heritage Advisory Group Representative Simon Weidenhofer said all the nominations for this year’s 2026 Heritage Awards were strong contenders who upheld heritage best practice.
“All winners, commendations and entrants should be proud of their achievements. Their dedication is key to preserving our region’s heritage for future generations to learn from and enjoy,” Mr Weidenhofer said.
