Albury City Council has announced its decision to cease Out of School Hours (OOSH) services at Albury Public School and Albury North Public School next month.
After considering the circumstances at both school sites, the Council says it has determined it cannot continue to provide the services while maintaining the required standards of safety, quality and governance.
From 25 September, Council delivery of OOSH services will end at both schools.
Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Gael Evans-Barr said the decision had not been taken lightly.
“We understand this is difficult news for the children, families and staff who have been part of these services, and we recognise the important role OOSH care plays in supporting families,” Ms Evans-Barr said.
“The safety, wellbeing and best interests of children must remain our highest priority, and as an Approved Provider we have a responsibility to ensure our services can continue to operate safely, effectively and in line with our legislative and regulatory obligations.
“We are committed to working collaboratively with the NSW Department of Education to support a smooth transition at both school sites.”
Before school care at Albury Public School, will also no longer be offered beyond Friday 21 August.
The Council says the decision reflects a range of factors, including workforce attraction and retention challenges, child safety considerations, increasing regulatory and compliance obligations, and the responsibilities associated with Council’s role as the Approved Provider.
Parents and families using the services have been notified of the decision.
The decision applies only to OOSH services at Albury Public School and Albury North Public School. All other AlburyCity-operated OOSH services and Banjora Children’s Centre will continue to operate as normal.
“We sincerely thank our employees, families and children for their support. It has been a privilege to provide OOSH care to the Albury Public School and Albury North Public School communities,” said Ms Evans-Barr.
“We are grateful for the relationships we have built and the opportunity to support so many local families.”
