Albury youth council elects leaders

The 2022 AlburyCity Youth Council has elected its leadership team, with Lachie Carpenter voted in as the 2022 Youth Mayor.

Lachie will be supported by Isaac Street, who has been named as Deputy Youth Mayor.

The Council also elected Colbey Baines as Secretary and Grace Alexander as Treasurer.

The new Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor will lead the 12-member Youth Council, which is made up of young people aged 12-22 who are passionate about representing the views of their peers.

The Youth Council are responsible for representing and advocating for young people in our community, building awareness and educating the wider community on youth related issues and making responsible decisions on behalf of young people.

They will also assist AlburyCity Council to develop plans and strategies that make sure young peoples’ views are considered in Council’s decision-making process.

Youth Mayor, Lachie Carpenter said he was excited about what the future holds for the new Youth Council.

“It’s an absolutely great group that we’ve assembled this year and I’m super excited to see the activities, initiatives and events we can organise for the betterment of our youth.”

Deputy Youth Mayor, Isaac Street echoed Mayor Carpenter’s sentiments.

“I’m really looking forward to creating more access to opportunities for all our youth, making sure everyone can be involved.”

AlburyCity Councillor, Ashley Edwards attended the Youth Council elections and congratulated the new Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor.

“I would like to congratulate both Lachie and Isaac for their successful appointment as Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor,” she said.

“Listening to their speeches, it was clear that these two young men are really passionate about representing the youth of AlburyCity.”

“I’m confident they will do a great job of leading the new Youth Council I can’t wait to see the great initiatives and programs that the council delivers over the coming year.”

“I’m also looking forward to greater collaboration between the Council and the Youth Council over the coming year.”
