Georges River Council hosted the Georges River Memory Walk and Jog on Saturday, raising a total of $26,509 in a show of solidarity for people impacted by dementia.
The event was held at Gannons Park in Peakhurst to mark Dementia Action Week. More than 450 participants including families, social groups and furry friends attended, embracing the theme ‘It’s time to talk about dementia’.
Attendees chose from a 3.3km walk to enjoy at their own pace or a 6.6km jog to challenge themselves. Open to all members of the community, the event was also wheelchair accessible.
“More and more people are being impacted by dementia every day. Initiatives like the Georges River Memory Walk and Jog allow us to come together and support people doing it tough,” said Mayor, Elise Borg.
“Our community should be incredibly proud of their support and fundraising efforts for such an important cause.”
The Council is a recognised member of Dementia Australia’s Dementia-Friendly Communities program.
