Coffs Harbour went bananas this morning, with hundreds of locals gathering at Jetty Beach to form a giant human banana in a vibrant show of community spirit.
Dressed mostly in yellow and stretching across the sand, the crowd came together to attempt the world record for the largest banana formed by people — a playful tribute to the region’s rich banana-growing heritage and a powerful celebration of local pride.
Hosted by Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams and Channel Nine’s, Jane DeGraff, the event brought families, community groups and visitors together for an historic moment that was as joyful as it was symbolic.
Mayor Williams said the event captured the essence of what makes Coffs Harbour a standout.
“This was such a fun way to celebrate our community,” she said.
“We’ve always known Coffs Harbour is a special place — today was about showing MyCoffs to the rest of Australia. Seeing so many people come together like this really speaks to the pride we have in where we live.”
While the formation itself was a spectacle, the event doubled as a trigger to supercharge Coffs Harbour’s entry in the NSW Top Tourism Town Awards, the Council says
“Tourism is such an important part of our local economy, supporting jobs, small businesses and the future of our region,” Mayor Williams said.
“Events like this not only bring people together, they help showcase everything that makes Coffs Harbour a destination worth visiting — and worth voting for.”
