Georges River welcomes new councillor aboard

Georges River Council has welcomed aboard new councillor, Gerard Hayes, who took an Oath of Office as the newly elected Councillor for Mortdale Ward yesterday.

The election of Cr Hayes (pictured) followed a countback process to fill the vacancy left by Councillor Ashvini Ambihaipahar, who was elected to Federal Parliament.

“I extend a sincere welcome to Councillor Hayes and congratulate him on being elected to represent the Mortdale Ward. His deep local knowledge and long-standing commitment to community service will be an asset to Council,” said Mayor, Elise Borg.

“I look forward to working with him to continue delivering positive outcomes for the residents of Mortdale Ward and the broader Georges River area.”

She said Cr Hayes brings with him a wealth of experience in community engagement and service delivery, having spent the past decade working in employment services and with Parklands Councils Inter-agencies in Western Sydney. He is also an active member of the Lugarno Lions Club and the Kingsgrove-Beverly Hills Branch of the Labor Party.

As a long-term resident of Mortdale Ward, Cr Hayes said he was committed to increasing transparency, improving access to elected representatives, and delivering meaningful and measurable outcomes for the local community.
