Construction on a $5.7 million upgrade of Werribee’s Galvin Park Sexton Pavilion will commence this month.
The works include a second storey extension with a social room, committee room, kitchenette, timekeeper area and office, four new change rooms that will be accessible for all abilities, new umpire rooms, first-aid room and storage.
In a nod to sustainability, all gas appliances will be replaced with electric and more than 60 solar panels will be added to the pavilion.
The works form part of a revamp of 14 sporting pavilions across Wyndham and comes two months after Council completed work on four sporting pavilion upgrades at Goddard Street Reserve, Arndell Park Reserve, Saltwater Reserve (tennis) and Tom Roberts Reserve.
Wyndham City Active City portfolio holder, Councillor Peter Maynard said the Galvin Park Sexton Pavilion upgrade marks the 14th and final upgrade in the program.
“As our population continues to grow at a rapid rate, it’s important that our sporting facilities keep pace,” Cr Maynard said.
“The sporting pavilion upgrades program ensure these facilities are friendly for women and girls, meet all accessibility requirements, and provide improved social and kiosk facilities for host clubs.
“The expansion of the Galvin Park Sexton Pavilion complements upgrades to the Galvin Park soccer and tennis pavilions undertaken in recent years.”
The Galvin Park upgrade is supported by a $2 million grant from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, $1 million from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, and $500,000 from the Federal Government.
