Georges River Council has revealed more than 112,000 kilograms of litter has been removed from the Georges River waterways and foreshores by the Georges Riverkeeper in the 2025/26 financial year.
Working with NSW Corrective Services teams, the Georges Riverkeeper completed 3,106 site visits, collecting 86,760 kilograms of general litter and 23,644 kilograms of bulky waste.
Community volunteers and Georges Riverkeeper also removed more than 2,000 kilograms of litter through clean-up events.
Mayor, Elise Borg said the result showed the value of strong partnerships and community action.
“In our local government area, 5,351 kilograms of litter was removed from our waterways and foreshores. This is an astounding figure, and I’d like to commend everyone involved in helping make our community a cleaner, greener place,” said the Mayor.
“Thank you to Council’s Waste, Natural Areas and Environment, and Parks and Gardens teams, Georges Riverkeeper, NSW Corrective Services and our volunteers for their efforts.”
