Yarra buses to rack up bikes

Several buses operating in the Yarra Ranges Council area are being upgraded with bicycle racks, Victoria’s Yarra Ranges Council has announced.

It said commuters using a bus with a bike rack can now ride their bike and load it on the bus to bring on their journey.

Bike racks are being added to busses on the following routes:

  • 683 Chirnside Park – Warburton via Lilydale Station & Seville & Yarra Junction;
  • 685 Lilydale – Healesville via Lilydale Station & Coldstream & Yarra Glen;
  • 686 Healesville – Badger Creek;
  • 687 Chum Creek – Healesville.

Bike racks can only fit two bikes at a time and are available on a first-come, first served-basis, the Council said.

Children under 13 must be assistant by an adult when loading a bike onto a rack.

Council says the initiative originated from a project led by the Bus Association Victoria.
