Works dig in for new Hornsby Park recreation hub

Hornsby Shire Council has marked the next major milestone in its long-term transformation of the former Hornsby quarry, breaking ground on the Old Mans Valley Field of Play development.

Located at Old Mans Valley South, the Field of Play will become the primary entry and orientation point for Hornsby Park, offering increased parking and a welcoming gateway that showcases the range of experiences the park will offer as it continues to open progressively.

The works will deliver a new multi-purpose sporting field and recreational green space, along with a storage room, changing rooms and toilets. Pump and jump tracks (pictured, below) will also be built, offering a dedicated area for bike riders to test their skills.

“The project is designed to support existing residents, while also helping to meet the sporting needs of a growing population as part of the State‑led Transport Oriented Development in the Hornsby Town Centre, which is focused on delivering more homes close to public transport, jobs and services,” said Mayor, Warren Waddell.

Old Mans Valley Field of Play builds on momentum from the opening of the Crusher Plant Precinct, Southern Lookout and Heritage Steps, Hornsby Park’s first completed stage. Other areas of Hornsby Park will continue to open progressively as works are finalised, including new walking and cycling connections and scenic lookouts.
