Blacktown City Council has marked the start of construction on the biggest redevelopment in Mount Druitt Swimming Centre’s 50-year history.
Mayor, Brad Bunting joined with community members on Monday to celebrate works beginning on the new centre, which is set to provide a modern and accessible new venue.
The new centre will offer:
– a 25m indoor learn-to-swim pool for children and adults
– a splashpad area for children
– a refurbished 50m outdoor pool
– year-round swimming at what was previously a seasonal venue
– inclusive amenities and changerooms, as well as spaces for community meetings
– a new kiosk which will serve people in the pool area and outside the venue.
“We all saw how much our community loves Mount Druitt Swimming Centre when Council held the End of an Era celebrations in January,” said Mayor Bunting.
“It’s exciting we will have a new, modern venue that people will continue to cherish and make memories in.”

The upgrade is being funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program.
Robert Buckwell of Whalan was a Blacktown City Councillor when the centre opened in 1975.
“Young children will enjoy learning to swim because the indoor pool will make it much easier to teach them,” said Mr Buckwell.
“I think it’s going to be excellent.”
Construction of the new swimming centre is expected to take about 18 months.
The plans form part of a $149 million masterplan investment in Mount Druitt, which includes the expansion of the Mount Druitt Library and Community Hub, the building of a First Nations Cultural Hub and public domain improvements to the town centre.
