Wingecarribee Shire Council has committed more than $21 million to improving key infrastructure across the Southern Highlands following an endorsement overnight by Council.
Critical funding adopted by Council’s Interim Administrator, Viv May, include monies to replace ageing timber bridges, carpark and stormwater drainage construction and improvements in Station Street and additional funding to renew Old South Road.
Council’s General Manager, Lisa Miscamble said the investments demonstrated Council’s long-term vision.
“These infrastructure improvement projects are not only varied but widespread across the Shire,” she said.
“They will deliver safer transport movements along key traffic corridors, enable more convenient parking and provide more efficient public amenity.
“Together they will provide real and lasting benefits for all residents and visitors to the Southern Highlands.”
Funding approved at the meeting includes:
- $2.51 million towards the construction of new vehicular bridges in Wildes Meadow, Mittagong, Meryla and Bowral;
- $0.70 million to construct a new carpark and stormwater drainage on Station Street in Bowral, and
- $18.50 million (combination of General Revenue, Special Rate Variation funding and grant monies) to be spent over the next two financial years on renewing a 9.5 kilometre section of Old South Road from Merrigang Street in Bowral to Aylmerton Road in Braemar.
