Western Australian civil contracting firm, Ertech Pty Ltd, has been selected for the design and delivery of a major wharf upgrade at the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) in Henderson.
The project will see the existing AMC Berth 1 extended by approximately 153 metres and include the upgrade of existing services on AMC wharves 1, 2 and 3.
“The AMC in Henderson is one of just two locations identified for naval ship building in Australia, making this precinct of strategic national importance,” said Defence Industry Minister, Paul Papalia.
“The major wharf upgrade works mark an important step in ensuring WA is well placed to capitalise on defence opportunities going forward, while creating more local jobs for Western Australians.
“The works are part of an $87.6 million upgrade to the AMC, announced by the McGowan Government in July 2020, which is expected to create up to 600 local jobs.”
Additional berth capacity for all Royal Australian Navy vessels, including Anzac class frigates and the future Hunter class frigates will be created.
The project will also include the design of a new 200 metre Finger Wharf to create Berths 7 and 8, to increase future capability to service Collins class and Attack class submarines and support larger naval vessels.
“The Australian Marine Complex is recognised as a world-class hub for manufacturing, maintenance, fabrication, assembly and technology servicing the defence, marine and resource industries,” Lands Minister, Tony Buti said.
“The McGowan Government has developed the AMC Strategic Infrastructure and Land Use Plan to identify the requirements to guide the AMC’s development as a nationally significant industrial area supporting these sectors.”
Ertech will undertake minor dredging and reclamation works as part of the contract.
Based in Wangara, Ertech is a 100% employee-owned business operating nationally across the aviation, defence, environmental and remediation, marine, resources and infrastructure sectors.
In addition to the wharf upgrades, the investment includes a new vessel transfer path, two road intersection upgrades and a new shipbuilding hall.
