Understanding local government – virtual classroom opportunity

Understanding Local Government provides council members with the relevant information they require to serve as a council member.

This course provides participants with an understanding of the composition, structure and operational functions of government, and in particular Western Australian Local Governments.

Target Audience

Suitable for Elected Members who would like to increase their knowledge and understanding of their role within Local Government.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of completing this program, participants should be able to:

  • understand how Local Government fits into the structure of government in Australia
  • understand the roles, functions and objectives of Western Australian Local Governments
  • distinguish between the strategic role of the council and the day to day role of the Local Government administration; and
  • understand the democratic process of how councils are established.

9:00am – 1:00pm (8:45am registration)

$240.00 (GST exempt)

Cancellations, transfers and substitutions

  • Requested must be received in writing via email, letter or fax.
  • Cancellations received within 5 working days of the start of the course will incur a 20% administration fee of the full course cost.
  • Non-attendance or cancellations received within 2 working days of the start of the course will incur the full course fee.
  • Participants can only transfer course dates once without incurring the full fee.
  • Substitutions can be made at any time and no fee will be incurred.
