Toowoomba Regional Council has today closed down two waste processing facilities to enable clean up efforts following incidents of illegal dumping at both sites.
The Council said the Goombungee and Cecil Plains Waste Management Facilities were expected to reopen by 21 June.
Water and Waste Portfolio, Councillor Nancy Sommerfield said it was disappointing that the facilities had been forced to close following the illegal dumping.
“It’s disappointing when members of the public dump the wrong sorts of materials at our waste management facilities and as a result of this occurring recently, we will have both the Goombungee and Cecil Plains facilities closed for a few days,” Cr Sommerfield said.
She said the clean up would be subject to contractor ability to complete the specialised remediation works.
