Toowoomba Mayor issues heatwave warning

Toowoomba Region Mayor, Geoff McDonald, has urged residents to take precautions as the region is hit by a three-day heatwave starting today.

Mayor McDonald said the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) had issued a heatwave warning and declared the entire Toowoomba Region would experience a ‘low-intensity heatwave’ up until Friday with some parts of the region to experience ‘severe heatwave’ conditions.

“I urge all residents right across the Toowoomba Region to take necessary precautions over the next few days to stay as cool as possible,” he said.

“Heatwaves can be particularly dangerous for the elderly and young children and I ask the community to check in on loved ones in coming days.

“BoM advise people to close windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home and to also obviously use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool whenever possible.

“Heatwaves can be dangerous and we ask residents to heed the advice of BoM in coming days,” Mayor McDonald said.
