Toowoomba Regional Council has released its 2026/27 Federal Budget Advocacy Priorities, outlining key projects and initiatives it is advocating for on behalf of the community.
Mayor, Geoff McDonald said the budget priorities reinforce Council’s commitment to securing long‑term investment for projects that strengthen the region’s liveability, safety and economic resilience.
“Each year, Council puts forward a pre-budget submission which outlines a clear set of priorities that reflect the needs and aspirations of our community,” he said.
“These priorities guide our conversations with Federal representatives and ensure the Toowoomba Region continues to be recognised as a place where investment delivers strong national and regional outcomes.”
For the 2026/27 Federal Budget, Council is seeking support for two major priorities:
- Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project – $80 million contribution to deliver critical dam safety upgrades that protect downstream communities, ensure long‑term water security and align with contemporary safety standards.
- Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct (Stage 1) – $30 million contribution for a transformational project that will deliver modern sporting facilities that support regional talent pathways, attract major events and enhance active lifestyle opportunities.
“These projects are essential to the future of our Region,” Mayor McDonald said.
“Safe, secure water infrastructure and high‑quality community sport facilities are fundamental to supporting population growth, strengthening local industries and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”
Council will actively pursue Federal funding throughout the year through major national program, including:
- Water and Waste Infrastructure Funding
- Housing Infrastructure Funding
- Disaster Ready Funding
- Housing Support Program
Additionally, Council will continue to advocate for investment in nationally significant infrastructure, particularly projects that strengthen Australia’s freight network and improve regional connectivity, such as Inland Rail, the Mayor said.
“Investment in nationally significant infrastructure is essential to building the transport networks Australia will rely on in the decades ahead.”
“Our Region is central to that network, which is why we continue to call on the Federal Government to deliver Inland Rail to Gowrie and Toowoomba as planned. Improved transport connectivity delivers last benefits for our Region, for Queensland and for the nation.
“Council will continue to seek external funding for these critical projects. I look forward to meeting with Federal Government Ministers in the coming months to show them why the Toowoomba Region truly is a place where ambition meets opportunity.”
