Toowoomba Regional Council has released a Request for Offer (RFO) inviting general aviation businesses to lease and develop available land at the city’s aerodrome.
The RFO is seeking proposals from general aviation operators and aviation-support businesses requiring hangarage, maintenance facilities or operational bases, including charter, training and specialist aviation services.
Council Economic Development portfolio spokesperson, Councillor Edwina Farquhar said the Toowoomba City Aerodrome already played a vital role in the Region’s economy and emergency response capability, and Council is committed to supporting its continued growth.
“The aerodrome supports critical services such as emergency operations, aviation training and charter services, while also underpinning local jobs and business activity,” Cr Farquhar said.
“This process is about enabling the next stage of growth — supporting existing operators to expand and attracting new aviation businesses to establish in Toowoomba.”
Council manages the Toowoomba City Aerodrome as a certified general aviation facility, with strong ongoing demand from aviation operators seeking secure, well-located land close to aircraft movement areas.
Cr Farquhar said the RFO was designed to encourage long-term aviation investment rather than speculative development.
“We’re looking for aviation-related uses that genuinely need to operate from an active aerodrome environment — whether that’s aircraft hangarage, maintenance, training or specialist services,” Cr Farquhar said.
“The goal is to expand the aerodrome’s capability, resilience and contribution to the regional economy over the long term.”
The RFO process allows Council to assess proposals at a concept level, with sites available for development under a fixed long-term lease structure. Proposals will be assessed on aviation compatibility, capability, deliverability and broader economic and community benefit.
Some sites are subject to additional planning considerations, and proponents are encouraged to review the RFO documentation carefully and undertake appropriate due diligence.
The RFO will close at 2pm on Tuesday, 24 March, with full documentation available via VendorPanel Tenders.
