The Hills Shire reveals vision towards 2050

The Hills Shire Council is inviting residents to help shape the region’s future by providing feedback on its draft long-term vision, Towards Hills 2050.

Towards Hills 2050 is Council’s updated Community Strategic Plan (CSP) – a key document that outlines the community’s aspirations and sets a shared vision for the Shire.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, said the Plan is a roadmap for the whole community to work together to achieve common goals.

“This plan sets in motion what we’ve heard – your vision for what you want The Hills to be by 2050,” Mayor Byrne said.

“By looking ahead to 2050, we’re setting new goals and working with residents, government, businesses and community groups to enhance the Shire’s liveability, resilience and inclusiveness for generations to come.”

The draft Plan outlines the roles of Council, government, the community and other stakeholders in shaping The Hills’ future. It will guide Council’s work over the next 25 years as it manages growth and addresses key challenges such as housing affordability, population increases, cost-of-living pressures and more frequent natural disasters – while continuing to deliver essential services.

The CSP is the highest-level strategic document Council prepares with its community.

The Hills’ first CSP – Hills 2026: Looking Towards the Future – was adopted in 2008 following broad consultation. Now known as Hills Future, it has guided Council’s direction across five key themes and 10 community outcomes.

Towards Hills 2050 builds on this foundation, responding to the Shire’s evolving needs and reaffirming long-term community aspirations through three key focus areas: enriched lifestyles; connected people and places; and proactive leadership and governance.

“It’s vital that Towards Hills 2050 truly reflects our community’s vision,” Mayor Byrne said.

“We’ve listened closely while developing the draft, and now we’re asking for your feedback to help finalise it.”

Residents are encouraged to complete an online survey or attend a community workshop.

Community Workshops:

  • 6pm – 8pm, Tuesday 13 May at Harvey Lowe Pavilion, Castle Hill Showground
  • 6pm – 8pm, Wednesday 14 May at The Hills Shire Council, 3 Columbia Court, Norwest

The online survey closes at midnight on Monday 12 May.
