Lake Macquarie City Council has released a tender for construction of a new a multi-purpose centre in Windale, featuring a high-tech library, modern community spaces and a flexible layout in which the community can connect, learn and create.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2022, and be completed in early 2023.
Lake Macquarie Mayor, Kay Fraser said the facility would create a centrepiece for a rapidly changing suburb.
“The existing library and community hall have served Windale well for more than 60 years, but they are certainly ready for an update,” Mayor Fraser said.
“This project will provide a central community hub that has long-term community benefits as a key meeting place and activity centre for Windale and provide the valuable services that local residents want and need.”
She said Council has actively engaged with the Windale community over the past three years to meet needs and expectations for the facility.
The building design features a range of adaptable spaces, including a large community hall and activity room for gatherings and functions, as well as ‘maker-space’ activities, smaller meeting rooms that are sound-proofed to enable their use as a recording studio, and several office spaces.
The multi-purpose centre, identified in the Charlestown Development Contributions Catchment Plan, will be funded by development contributions and proceeds from the sale of Council land at Bennetts Green.
The tender closes at 2pm, Tuesday 19 October 2021. Submissions can be made online.
