Southern Grampians Shire Council has approved a tender for lights to be installed at the main playing oval at Pedrina Park to further develop one of Hamilton’s premier recreation facilities and help nurture active and healthy communities.
Acting Chief Executive Officer, Rory Neeson said Council planned for the lights to be installed before April 2024, in time for the football training season.
“Pedrina Park in Hamilton has been developed as the primary multi-purpose sporting precinct within the shire,” said Mr Neeson.
“As part of the current masterplan for the facility, the provision of lighting at ‘oval one’ is listed as a future priority.”
Mr Neeson said the current Melville Oval redevelopment project had identified the need for another sporting oval in Hamilton with adequate lighting to provide a training venue for the Hamilton Kangaroos Football Club for the 2024 season.
“The state-of-the-art lights will also provide another suitable winter training or playing location for other sport and recreation clubs in Hamilton once the Melville Oval redevelopment is complete.”
Council secured $50,000 from the AFL’s Australian Football Facilities Fund for the new lights.
Laser Electrical of Horsham has been appointed to install four light towers to house 50 lux lights (unit of illuminance).
