Wollongong City Councillor, Tania Brown, has been declared the city’s new Lord Mayor, taking the reins from 73-year-old, Gordon Bradbury, who stepped down ahead of last month’s election after 13 years in the top job.
Lord Mayor Brown (pictured) was first elected to Wollongong City Council as a Councillor in 2017, re-elected in 2021 and also served as Deputy Lord Mayor from 2019 to 2024.
“Tania is Wollongong born and bred, and raised her family here. She previously worked with the University of Wollongong and the NSW and Australian governments,” the Council said in a statement.
“She is an active member of the Illawarra community and has previously served on the Boards of several local organisations, including Destination Wollongong, Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, Illawarra Sports Stadium Ltd, the Illawarra Hawks and the Illawarra District Rugby League Club Limited.”
The NSW Electoral Commission yesterday declared 12 Wollongong City Councillors, with four returning Councillors from the previous term and eight new Councillors.
The list of Councillors can be found on Council’s Your Officials page. Councillors will commence their official duties from 8 October.
