Sydney council launches Easter toy drive

City of Canterbury Bankstown Council is encouraging local residents to donate to families who are doing it tough, launching the Eid and Easter Toy Drive today.

As locals continue feeling the pinch of the current cost of living, many children will go without this holiday season, and Council has decided to support struggling families by gathering toy and clothing donations, the Council said in a statement.

“There are various religious holidays and spiritual events being celebrated across our City during this time of year,” said a spokesperson.

“Our Council decided during this month-long period it was an opportune time for the community to rally behind those less fortunate.”

This will be the first year the Council has held the Eid and Easter Toy Drive.

Donations are being accepted during business hours from Thursday 7 March to Tuesday 9 April at Council’s Bankstown and Campsie Customer Service Centres, Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre and Campsie Library and Knowledge Centre.

Items that will be accepted include new:

  • Board games, toys and books;
  • Pyjamas and slippers;
  • Beanies and warm clothing;
  • Stationery and school supplies; and
  • Gift cards and vouchers.

Council received an overwhelming number of donations for the 2023 Mayoral Christmas Toy Drive and anticipates the same response for the 2024 Eid and Easter Toy Drive.
