Extensive recovery works by Sunshine Coast Council are still underway in response to Saturday’s powerful storm cell which most impacted the region’s southern suburbs.
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said Caloundra area residents and businesses would be able to dispose of green waste, generated as a result of storm damage on the weekend, for free at the Caloundra Resource Recovery Centre until close of business Sunday, 24 January.
“We’ve extended this as we appreciate it will take some people extra time to clean-up, especially those who are working,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“Residents just need to bring identification showing proof of address, and are encouraged to plan ahead, as there may be longer than usual waits due to high demand.”
Free green waste disposal for storm damage materials is only available at the Caloundra Resource Recovery Centre for residents and businesses in Caloundra, Little Mountain, Moffat Beach, Currimundi and Aroona.
Mayor Jamieson said council staff and contractors were working as quickly and safely as possible to complete the clean-up of public spaces.
“Our staff have been working tirelessly alongside our emergency service partners since the storm hit, removing fallen trees and debris from roadsides and parks,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“I congratulate them for their efforts, our community are in great hands with our staff at their best in these emergency situations.
“I would like to reassure our residents and businesses that all requests are being prioritised and actioned accordingly.
“We appreciate your patience and assistance as our crews continue to work on the clean-up.”
