Hepburn Shire Council has confirmed a new 40km/h speed zone will be introduced in the central business district of Daylesford, following numerous calls for a reduced speed limit in the area.
The town’s CBD made headlines in November 2023 when a driver crashed into Royal Hotel patrons seated in the venue’s beer garden, killing five people, in November 2023.
“Council has listened to the numerous calls for reduced speeds in Daylesford and has been collaborating with the Department of Transport and Planning to establish a safer speed zone,” Council said in a statement.
“The new speed zone in Daylesford covers the central business district and areas with high pedestrian activity, including both local and state-controlled roads.
“Our works crew will begin the sign installation this week and expect to complete the project before Easter. The existing speed limit signs will be removed first, followed by the placement of the new 40 km/hr signs. We will continue to look at speed limits across the Shire.”
