Rockhampton Regional Council will this week commence an upgrade of a section of Somerset Road in Gracemere in a bid to improve connectivity to the Gracemere Industrial Area.
The Council says the upgrade will bring the section of road to the same standard of the already completed 2.1km stretch of Somerset Road.
The works will include improvements to stormwater, full pavement reconstruction, road widening, and kerb and channel on the property side of Somerset Road.
Somerset Road is a key B-Double route and sees high traffic volumes of heavy vehicles mixed with residential traffic.
“These works aim to improve road drainage, property access, and road width, allowing the road to be more suitable for heavy vehicle movements and improving the overall safety of the area for users,” Council said in a statement.
The project has funding contributions from Rockhampton Regional Council and the Queensland Government’s Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme.
Works will commence today and are expected to conclude in October 2024, subject to road and weather conditions.
