Rockhampton councillor portfolio changes announced

Rockhampton Regional Council has today announced changes to several councillor portfolios during its Ordinary Council meeting.

As part of the changes, Councillor Elliot Hilse, recently appointed to Division 2, will serve in the Environmental and Sustainability portfolio as well as Assistant Portfolio Councillor for Water and Waste and Recycling.

The Environmental Sustainability Portfolio aligns with Council’s Corporate Plan and strategic goals, with the roles of assistant councillor added due to the importance environmental sustainability plays in Water and Waste and Recycling, the Council said in a statement.

Mayor, Tony Williams’ portfolio has been expanded to include Rockhampton Airport, complementing his existing Economic Development responsibilities which encompasses the work of the Advance Rockhampton’s Economic Development, Tourism and Marketing Units.

Deputy Mayor, Drew Wickerson’s Portfolio has also been renamed as the Communities, Culture and Heritage Portfolio, recognising the importance of culture within the community.

The portfolio system, introduced in 2020, replaced the previous structure where Councillors held committee chair positions. This new system enables Councillors to take the lead on key focus areas and priorities, aiming to achieve the best outcomes for the Region.
