A major safety boost is on the way for motorists and pedestrians in Bundaberg West, with a busy local intersection set to be transformed through the construction of a new roundabout, raised pedestrian crossings and upgraded street lighting.
The Branyan and Crofton Street intersection was identified by Bundaberg Regional Council as a priority site for improvement, with the planned upgrades designed to slow traffic and make it safer and easier for people to move through the area.
Funding for the project has been secured under the Australian Government’s 2025-26 Black Spot Program.
Roads and Infrastructure (Urban) portfolio spokesperson, Councillor Larine Statham-Blair said the intersection played a vital role in the daily lives of many residents.
“The Branyan and Crofton Street intersection is a particularly busy area, with a childcare centre, medical precincts and a range of businesses nearby,” she said.
“Each day there are families, patients and staff navigating this area.
“These improvements will make everyone’s commute safer but it will also streamline the flow of traffic for all of the people who rely on this important connection to essential services.”

Mayor, Helen Blackburn said the project was an important investment in the community.
“The Branyan and Crofton Street intersection is one of a number of important safety upgrades Council is delivering this year,” she said.
“As our population continues to grow, ensuring our road network keeps pace is essential for the safety and efficiency of our community.
“Council is focused on practical, well‑planned improvements that deliver real benefits for residents.”
Construction is expected to begin later this month.
