Randwick City Council has lowered flags to half-mast and will light up Randwick Town Hall today to mark the National Day of Mourning honouring the victims of, and those impacted by, the 14 December Bondi Beach terrorist attack.
Flags are flying at half-mast on Council’s Administration Building, Randwick Town Hall and at La Perouse Museum. Randwick Town Hall will also be illuminated in white tonight as a symbol of mourning, unity and that light will triumph over darkness.
Four Randwick City community members – 10-year-old Matilda, Tania Tretiak, Alex Kleytman and Peter Meagher – were among the 15 people who were killed in the antisemitic terrorist attack at Bondi Beach.
Mayor, Dylan Parker said the loss had been felt deeply across the City and that Council continued to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community.
Council is encouraging everyone to observe a minute’s silence at 7.01pm tonight and consider lighting a candle as a symbol of remembrance and solidarity with the Jewish community.
“Our thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones, and the entire Jewish community,” Mayor Parker said.
“We stand beside you in grief and solidarity.”
