Randwick builds on amenities accessibility

Randwick City Council has begun construction of a new amenities building near the netball courts at Heffron Park in Maroubra to better support women and girls to play sport.

The new building replaces an old block of toilets and will feature dedicated women and girls’ bathrooms as well as a dedicated changeroom with private showers and toilets. It will also include an accessible bathroom, unisex toilets, a bathroom for referees, storage rooms, and water and building plant rooms.

The Council says the design of the amenities is better orientated towards the netball courts, providing more direct access for players. The building will also support the use of the netball undercover stadium, which is also used for markets.

Mayor, Dylan Parker said the new amenities building was a part of Council’s continued efforts to provide and maintain inclusive spaces for sport and recreation.

“Sport should be accessible and welcoming for everyone, and this new facility is a step forward in supporting women and girls to feel comfortable and confident when training and competing,” Mayor Parker said.

“Heffron Park is one of our most popular sporting precincts in Randwick City, and these upgrades will make a real difference for the thousands of players and referees who use the netball courts each year.”

The project is funded by the NSW Government in association with Council, and is expected to be completed by mid 2026.
