Rain dampens Armidale stage progress

The construction of the new mall stage in Armidale’s CBD is progressing well despite some delays due to poor weather, Armidale Regional Council said today.

“Local contractors Wallace Construction and subcontractor Dillion’s Concrete and Earthworks have taken every opportunity to push ahead with demolition and foundation works even though several unexpected delays have caused them to be 1-2 weeks behind schedule,” Council said in a statement.

“We are expecting the stage base will be completed by Christmas – weather permitting.”

It said that due to circumstances outside of Council’s control, the project’s sound shell/roof design and fabrication process had been delayed.

“The sound shell/roof is now expected to be installed closer to March allowing the stage to be used for public performances,” Council said.

“Once the new stage is completed, the community will have the opportunity to use the new stage free of charge for performances.”
