Queen’s honour for former Swan CEO

City of Swan Council has congratulated its former Chief Executive Officer for his recognition in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Mike Foley (pictured) was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his significant service to local government.

He served 39 years at the City of Swan during a time of exponential growth and development.

Starting his career as a civil engineer with Main Roads Western Australia in 1972, he commenced his employment at the City (formerly Shire of Swan) as a construction engineer in 1981.

From there he was appointed Deputy Shire Engineer and Shire Engineer, before being appointed as the first City Engineer in 2000.

In 2006, Mike was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for the City, a position he held for 14 years.

City of Swan Mayor, David Lucas said the recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List was further indication that Mr Foley’s time in the local government sector were marked by exemplary service.

“He made a significant contribution to the City of Swan, and his dedication to our community is undisputable,” he said.

“He led with a high degree of integrity and honesty and was dedicated to enhancing people’s quality of life.”
