The Town of Port Hedland Council is helping to remove financial barriers to higher education by contributing $20,000 in scholarship funding to support regional students on their university journey through a partnership with the Pilbara Kimberley University Centres.
Mayor, Jacinta Behrend said the four scholarships, valued at $5,000 each, would help to ensure local students had access to the support they needed to achieve their study and career goals.Â
“We know that regional and remote students often face unique, additional costs when pursuing higher education, whether it’s travel, accommodation, technology or study resources,” said Mayor Behrend.
“These scholarships can make a real difference by easing some of those financial pressures and helping students focus on achieving their goals.
“The Town is proud to partner with Pilbara Kimberley University Centres to create more opportunities for local people to access higher education and build successful futures.
“Investing in education is an investment in our community, and we encourage all eligible students to apply,” she said.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in, or have received an offer to undertake, a university course and demonstrate financial need or barriers that may impact their ability to start or continue their studies.
Scholarship funds may be used to assist with course fees, learning resources including technology, and travel and accommodation expenses associated with study.
Applications are now open and will close on 30 September.
