OAM for Mount Remarkable CEO

South Australia’s District Council of Mount Remarkable has today congratulated its CEO following announcement of Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Sam Johnson (pictured) was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his outstanding service to Local Government and the community in the Queen’s Birthday 2021 Honours List.

On behalf of the Council, Mayor Phillip Heaslip congratulated Mr Johnson
on the significant achievement.

“Council is absolutely delighted for Sam on receiving the recognition of his service to Local Government and the broader community,” Mayor Heaslip said.

“Sam has held numerous roles within Local Government including as the former Mayor of the Port Augusta City Council, LGA Board member, Chair of Spencer Gulf Cities, Chair of the Upper Spencer Gulf Common Purpose Group, and now currently as the Chief Executive Officer at the District Council of Mount Remarkable,” he said.

“Sam has always been over many years a great community-minded person and his
commitment as a former volunteer in his younger years, particularly as the former
youngest serving Mayor of Port Augusta City Council and currently as the Local
Government sector’s youngest serving Chief Executive Officer at Mount Remarkable, all make him a worthy recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia.”

Mr Johnson will be officially presented with the Award at Government House later in 2021.

“Council looks forward to formally congratulating Sam at the June Council meeting” said Mayor Heaslip.

Mr Johnson said it was delighted to accept the award and gratefully acknowledged the “enthusiasm, expertise and unwavering support of the people who make up our team at the District Council of Mount Remarkable, those who I have previously worked with as Mayor at the Port Augusta City Council and associated roles across the Local Government sector, and the broader community”.

“It has been a privilege to work with so many people who share my passion for
community and the Local Government sector. I share this award with the many people I have met along the way making it ‘our’ award and the recognition not just mine, and this award would not be possible without the support and encouragement of those close to me,” he said.

“I am very thankful for all who have been the guiding lights, the helpful ears, the patient onlookers, and the mouths of wise wisdom along the way. I am very proud also of what we have all collectively achieved together. That is why this is our award, for it is all of us who have triumphed, and not just one,” he wrote on LinkedIn, along with a photo of his family.

“Let the journey continue, and may we continue to accomplish all that comes our way.”
