NSW Government named top graduate employer

The NSW Government has been named as Australia’s most popular graduate employer for 2021 in the Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Graduate Employers list, announced last night at an awards ceremony in Sydney.

Minister for the Public Service, Don Harwin said that graduates are key to NSW Government’s ability to shape and change the future of NSW.

“NSW has a world class public service and the graduate program plays a substantial role in building and maintaining that standard,” Mr Harwin said.

“Because the program seeks students from all disciplines and backgrounds, it ensures the government workforce is as diverse as the community it serves.”

Since it began in 2016, the 18-month program has been a career start for over 800 graduates. It accepts candidates from all backgrounds and offers a permanent role when graduates successfully complete the program. From day one, it gives people an opportunity to work on diverse projects that contribute to making NSW a great place to live, work and visit.

NSW Public Service Commissioner Kathrina Lo said that this award reflects the hard work that goes into making the program a success.

“By offering roles in regional and metropolitan areas, opportunities for further study and a legal stream for graduates wanting a legal career – we can offer graduates a rich and diverse experience they won’t get elsewhere,” Ms Lo said.

As well as winning the highest accolade of the night, the NSW Government Graduate Program also won the Most Popular Government and Defence Employer Award for the fourth year running.

Applications for the 2022 NSW Government Graduate Program will open in July 2021. Find out more information about the NSW Government Graduate Program.
