Northern Grampians mourns death of Mayor

Northern Grampians Shire Council is mourning the death of Mayor, Tony Driscoll who passed away on Sunday after a period of illness.

Councillor Driscoll had served on Council since October 2012 and represented the Kara Kara Ward. He had previously held the role of Mayor in 2016-2018.

“Councillor Driscoll will be remembered for his dedication and integrity as Mayor and Councillor and the many achievements for the shire for which he played an integral role,” the Council said in a statement.

“He was a passionate advocate for his community, remaining active in service throughout the course of his illness.”

It said flags at Town Halls in Stawell and St Arnaud would be flown at half-mast in recognition of the Mayor’s passing. Council meetings have also been postponed until 15 August to allow Councillors a period of mourning.

“Our thoughts, love and deepest condolences go to Tony’s family, friends and loved ones,” Council said.

Meanwhile, City of Ballarat Council has conveyed its sincere condolences following Mayor Driscoll’s passing.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Daniel Moloney commended Cr Driscoll’s passion for serving his community. 

“Cr Driscoll was a tireless advocate for the Northern Grampians Shire Council and his loss will be widely felt right across the municipality and broader region,” he said.

City of Ballarat Chief Executive Officer, Evan King said Cr Driscoll had made an “enormous” contribution to his community. 

“The City of Ballarat is deeply saddened to hear of Cr Driscoll’s passing. He leaves behind a significant legacy,” said Mr King.
