Nominations open for Alice Springs awards and youth education bursary

Alice Springs Town Council is calling on the community to recognise local people, events and achievements, with nominations for the Citizen of the Year and Mayoral Awards, and applications for the Youth Education Bursary, now open.

Mayor, Asta Hill encouraged residents to think about the people making a difference in Alice Springs.

“Some people make their contribution in the spotlight, while others quietly give their time and energy to our community. These awards are a chance to say thank you and share their stories,” Mayor Hill said.

“Whether you have someone in mind for an award or know a young person who could benefit from the bursary, I encourage you to take a look and apply.”

Citizen of the Year Awards nominations are open until 5pm Monday 16 November in four categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.

The awards will be presented at Council’s Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony on Wednesday 27 January 2027.

The Mayoral Awards are celebrated in line with the International Day of People with a Disability (IDPwD) to highlight the contributions made by individuals with disability and by individuals working with and advocating for disability communities. Nominations are open until 5pm Monday 2 November for the Noteworthy Award, the Champion Award and the Michele Castagna Medal. Recipients will be recognised
at the Mayoral Awards on Thursday 3 December.

Youth Education Bursary applications are open until 5pm Monday 16 November. Each successful applicant will receive a bursary valued at $2,500, with recipients announced at the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony on Wednesday 27 January 2027.
