No new Sydney asbestos detections

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) investigation into asbestos contaminated mulch has returned two negative results at Sydney schools in the past day, and no positives.

The two negative results were returned for sites at Mount Annan Christian College in Currans Hill and Trinity Catholic Primary School at Kemps Creek.

The total number of positive sites remains at 47.

“As of 6pm yesterday, 798 tests have returned negative results since January 10. The EPA expects to receive further results over the coming days,” the EPA said in a statement.

“Precautionary testing will be undertaken at three health facilities. These are Macquarie Hospital, Tresillian (Wollstonecraft) and Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice. At risk areas will be cordoned off.”

An area next to a pathway under a bridge on Lilyfield Road, Lilyfield is also being tested as a precaution.

Inner West Council has advised most of the affected area is not accessible to the public, and the entire site is now fenced off.
