New waste solution funding opens

Round 2 of theĀ Local Government Waste Solutions FundĀ (LGWS), supporting councils to undertake transformative waste and recycling projects to help minimise waste and establish a circular economy, is now open.

A total of $3 million in grants is available from the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in the latest round.

The grants will assist NSW councils and regional waste groups to develop and deliver innovative projects, to enable waste avoidance, material recovery and reprocessing.

Eligible projects must contribute to achieving at least one of the priorities and targets identified in the NSW Governmentā€™s Waste and Sustainable Materials (WaSM) Strategy 2041 and the NSW Plastics Action Plan.

A project delivered by an individual council has a maximum funding limit of $200,000 (excluding GST).

A project delivered by a regional waste group, or a collaboration of local councils, has a maximum funding limit of $400,000 (excluding GST).

All projects must be completed by end of financial year 2026/27. Lead applicants must be from the levy paying area of NSW.
