New transport strategy walked out for Hobsons Bay

Hobsons Bay City Council has commenced engagement for its Integrated Transport Strategy 2026-2036, seeking community feedback on the city’s future transport plan.

The Council says the long-term strategy aims to create a system where all modes of transport work together, and are as sustainable, efficient, accessible and safe as possible for the next decade.

Hobsons Bay’s population is projected to grow to 105,000 by 2036, presenting various transport challenges including congestion, infrastructure and services gaps, cycling safety and limited public transport options.

Council says the strategy will look to address these, while also looking ahead to ongoing developments such as electric vehicles and charging stations, and other new technologies.

Community members can now have their say via an online survey at participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au, which includes a map where people can identify where there is an issue or opportunity.

The first round of community consultation will end on 15 March, with a draft strategy expected to be presented for community feedback in July.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Cr Diana Grima:

“From walks to the shops and school trips to weekend rides, public transport and driving, we know people have such a varied range of how they get around Hobsons Bay,” said Mayor, Diana Grima.

“It’s important to have your say, so we can listen to the different experiences of how people get from A to B in our city.

“Share your voice and help shape our transport future.”
