Sydney’s City of Canada Bay Council has begun construction on two new shared spaces in Drummoyne.
The $3 million project will see parts of Church Street and Formosa Street, Drummoyne transformed into inviting public spaces the whole community can enjoy.
“Our new Shared Spaces will provide our community with much-needed public space in Drummoyne and help boost local businesses along Victoria Road,” City of Canada Bay Deputy Mayor, Stephanie di Pasqua said.
“Following community feedback, the spaces will feature picnic tables, shaded seating, and play opportunities, as well as play host to different community events and activities throughout the year.
“By creating inviting public spaces, we hope to encourage more visitors to Drummoyne and in turn, encourage more shopping and dining in our great local business precinct.”
Council selected the two sites after extensive community consultation and resolved to make them permanent following a trial from October 2020 to March 2021.
The project is jointly funded by the City of Canada Bay and the NSW Government’s state-wide Your High Street Program, aimed at boosting high street businesses, local economies, and public wellbeing in response to COVID-19.
