Councillor Hanna El Mouallem has been elected Mayor of Victoria’s Bayside City Council.
Cr El Mouallem (pictured), who represents Bayside’s Dendy Ward, said that his time as a panellist for the Bayside 2050 Community Vision project before being elected as a Councillor, has provided a unique insight into community concerns.
“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to serve as Mayor of our wonderful municipality,” he said.
“Bayside is a kind and connected community and I’m dedicated to delivering community-focused projects that balance the intergenerational impacts of land and asset use so future generations can enjoy what we all love in Bayside.”
He was elected to Bayside City Council in November 2020 and served as Deputy Mayor in 2021–22.
“I’m looking forward to leading this Council through the delivery of some fantastic initiatives and am committed to working with my fellow Councillors to address any challenges that come our way.”
Cr El Mouallem acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto in leading Council over the past year.
“Cr del Porto had an exceptional term as Mayor and I commend him for his great work,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to working alongside all my fellow Councillors building a collegial Council to continue making Bayside better.”
At the same meeting, Cr Jo Samuel-King MBBS was elected Deputy Mayor.
