Moree Plains Shire Council has announced the appointment of Steve Hamilton as its new General Manager, commencing on Monday 9 November.

The Council said Mr Hamilton (pictured) brings extensive experience across both local and state Government.

Mr Hamilton said he was looking forward to joining the organisation and becoming part of the local community.

“I’m genuinely excited to be joining Moree Plains Shire Council and becoming part of the community. It’s a fantastic opportunity, and I’m grateful for the confidence Council has placed in me,” he said.

“Moree Plains has enormous potential, and I’m looking forward to working with our Councillors, staff and communities to deliver results that matter and make a positive difference to people’s lives. I’m passionate about local government and believe in being approachable, listening to people and working together to achieve our shared priorities.

“My wife Megan and I recently visited Moree and were made to feel very welcome by everyone we met. I’m looking forward to getting to know our communities and being actively involved across the Shire.”

Mayor, Susannah Pearse said Council was delighted to welcome Mr Hamilton to the role and was confident his experience and leadership will be a strong asset for both the organisation and community.

“Council is delighted to announce that we have appointed Steve Hamilton as General Manager,” said Mayor Pearse.

“With an impressive resume spanning both Local and State Government roles and a track record of improving capital works delivery, Steve is a down to earth but highly motivated individual whose engaging nature will see him well placed to lead and inspire our organisation, and work collaboratively with our community and stakeholders.

“Council is excited for what Steve will bring to the table and we look forward to introducing him to our community members.”

Mayor Pearse also acknowledged the significant contribution of former Acting General Manager, Ian Stoneman, who has led the organisation during the recruitment and transition period.

“I would also like to extend council’s most sincere thanks to Mr Ian Stoneman who – as Acting General Manager for the past four months – has provided such a capable and safe pair of hands and worked tirelessly for our organisation,” she said.
