City of Parramatta Council has celebrated the opening of the city’s first community recycling centre today.
Parramatta Community Recycling Centre, located in North Parramatta, will accept paints, household and car batteries, gas bottles and fluorescent globes and tubes free of charge from community members. Local residents can also drop off e-waste, polystyrene and textiles at the new facility.
Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter said the recycling centre would be welcomed by the community as the next step in Council’s waste disposal services.
“Our state-of-the-art local community recycling centre will make it easier for residents to divert problem waste from landfill, helping us to build a more sustainable, healthier and more resilient city,” Lord Mayor Zaiter said.

“Global cities like San Francisco and Singapore are known for prioritising recycling to manage waste sustainably – Parramatta is no different.
“Locals can now do their bit for the environment and recycle their unwanted items at no cost so I encourage everyone to take advantage of this fantastic service.”
The $13 million project is funded by Council and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
The Parramatta Community Recycling Centre is open from 8am-4pm from Tuesday to Friday and 8am-12pm on Saturdays.
