Northern Beaches Council has unveiled a new pedestrian and cycle bridge on Pittwater Road, creating a safer link to the Narrabeen Lagoon for locals and visitors.
Mayor, Michael Regan said the section of path had been identified as a pinch point and safety hazard for cyclist and pedestrian using the old bridge.
“The 8.4km Narrabeen Lagoon Trail is well used and since 2015 we have upgraded several sections of the trail to ensure the safety of all users,” the Mayor said.
“Thanks to the generous support of the NSW Government this key section, which sits alongside the existing bridge, allows both pedestrians and cyclists to ride freely eliminating the previous bottleneck.
“Shared paths are a crucial part of our planning and is not only good for our health, the environment and reducing traffic congestion, but it creates more accessibility to our villages and town centres,” he said.
Member for Pittwater and Minister for Infrastructure and Active Transport, Rob Stokes said the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail showcases one of the most picturesque areas of the northern beaches, and this project helps to support access and enjoyment for all users.
“This is an exciting addition to our active transport network – just in time for summer,” said Minister Stokes.
“This project makes it much safer and easier for people to jog, walk and ride along this key area of the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail.
“We’ve seen brilliant cooperation between the NSW Government and Northern Beaches Council as the Lagoon Trail has been formalised, and this is another important example.”
This $3.6 million project was made possible with funding from Transport for NSW.
