Griffith City Council has unveiled new Anzac Day banners along its main street, recognising the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand Defence Force personnel ahead of Saturday’s official commemorations.
The banners were requested by the Griffith RSL Sub-Branch and funded by the Griffith Exies Club, with Council working collaboratively to facilitate and install the displays ahead of Anzac Day.
Griffith RSL Sub-Branch President, Michael Borg said the banners are a visible reminder of the importance of remembering those who have served.
“Anzac Day is a time for reflection and respect, and these banners help ensure that message is front and centre in our community,” Mr Borg said.
“They honour past and present service members and remind younger generations of the significance of Anzac Day.”
The initiative was made possible through the support of the Griffith Exies Club, which funded the production of the banners.
Griffith Exies Club General Manager, Garry Tucker said the Club was proud to support the project.
“The Exies Club has a long-standing connection with veterans and the RSL, and we are pleased to contribute in a meaningful way,” Mr Tucker said.
“These banners are a fitting tribute and an opportunity for the whole town to come together in remembrance.”
Council facilitated the installation of the banners across the main street in the lead-up to Anzac Day.
Mayor, Doug Curran said Council was pleased to work alongside community organisations on the project.
“Council is always happy to collaborate on initiatives that strengthen community pride and honour our shared history,” Mayor Curran said.
“The Anzac Day banners add to the atmosphere of respect and reflection during this important time of year, and we thank the RSL and the Exies Club for their leadership and support.”
The banners will remain in place over the Anzac Day holiday, providing a visual tribute for residents and visitors
