The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Council is preparing to welcome members of the community to the official opening of the Goldfields
Community Pavilion next month, giving the public a first look at the new event space.
The contemporary, all-weather multipurpose facility is located adjacent to the Goldfields Arts Centre and will provide a flexible venue for markets, festivals, performances, exhibitions, school events, community celebrations and a wide range of year-round uses.
The $10.6 million project represents a significant investment in the city’s civic and cultural infrastructure, designed to strengthen community connection, support local activity and contribute to the ongoing activation of the city centre.
The Pavilion has been designed for flexibility, operating as an open-air car park during everyday use, and transforming into a fully enclosed, weatherproof indoor venue for events and functions, accommodating up to 2,100 people.
The project received support from BHP through the WA Nickel Community Fund and Lotterywest.
Mayor, Glenn Wilson said the opening marks an important milestone for the city, with the Pavilion set to provide new opportunities for community events and bring greater activity into the CBD.
“This is a space designed for the community, and it’s fitting to see it come alive with the Rotary Markets for its first day of use,” Mayor Wilson said.
“It’s the kind of place that will feel different every time you come here. Some days it will be markets, other days performances, celebrations, conferences or community events.
“With support from our funding partners, this space creates new opportunities to attract events and activity into the CBD and further strengthens Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a key destination in Western Australia for high-calibre events,” he said.
The search for a permanent name now begins, with the community invited to have their say and help define this new landmark for Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
The official opening will also launch a community naming process for the Pavilion. On the day, attendees will be invited to put forward ideas for a permanent name, with further opportunities for community submissions in the weeks following the event. All suggestions will be
considered by Council before a final name is determined.
The opening event planned for 12 July will be free and open to the public, with markets commencing at 9am and official proceedings at 10am.
